When we cast our votes for selectmen, we will be looking for candidates with experience, leadership and commitment. After we examined this year’s field of five selectman candidates, one person stood out in each one of these three categories. This person is Mary Jane Mastrangelo. Mary Jane has spent 15 years and hundreds of volunteer hours dedicated to listening to Bourne’s residents and advising them how to add value to the town. These 15 years were spent for the most part on the Bourne’s Finance Committee, serving first as a committee member for 10 years then serving as the finance committee chair for the past five years. She also served as a member and is currently the chair of the Capital Outlay Committee. As a business owner she has brought 40 years of management experience to the Wastewater Advisory Committee and the Wastewater Facility Design and Building Committee helping the town get over $4 million dollars in grant money for the construction of the Buzzards Bay wastewater facility. Raising her hand to assume the challenges of chairing the efforts of both the finance committee and the capital outlay committee demonstrates to both of us the meaning of the word “leadership.” During countless committee meetings and over a decade of town meetings, she has demonstrated her personal commitment to town residents by researching financial alternatives and presenting meaningful information so that the voters at Town Meeting can vote to add value to the place they care so much about. Please join us and vote Mary Jane Mastrangelo for selectman.
