UCT senior third baseman Jared Westgate continues to be the straw that stirs the drink of the Rams’ baseball team.
Aside from playing a nearly flawless third base in the field and offering spot starts on the hill, Westgate has often been a catalyst from the top of the Rams’ lineup, as evident in UCT’s 5-2 road win against Wareham on Tuesday, May 21.
The senior went 2-for-3 with a double and sparked a two-run rally in the top of the first inning. Then in the top of the fourth inning, two more runs came around to score after the Vikings mishandled the ball he put in play; that helped UCT increase its lead to 5-0.
It was a doubly memorable game for Westgate, as UCT avenged a 17-4 home loss to Wareham in early April and the Wareham native got to hand his childhood friends one final loss before the end of his high school career.
