Max Hess

Bourne senior Max Hess may have graduated over the weekend, but he’s still helping his new alma mater excel on the lacrosse field.

Hess tallied 12 points, scoring five goals and assisting on seven more, as the Canalmen boys’ lacrosse team scored a 15-14 upset over Tri-County in Franklin on Monday, June 3 during the Division 3 South Sectional first round.

The Canalmen fell behind 12-11 after the third quarter before mounting a fourth-quarter comeback that propelled Bourne into the sectional quarter finals.

As a co-captain, Hess and others helped their team regain its composure after committing eight penalties in the third quarter, playing a man down for the better part of the frame.

“Before I had a chance to tell them, [the captains] already were doing it,” Bourne head coach Tim Crowley said. “They recognized what happened in the third shouldn’t have happened.”
