For the first time under third-year head coach Mike Massmann, the Bourne field hockey team will compete in postseason play.
With the their 4-0 road win against Southeastern in Easton on Wednesday, October 22, the Canalmen punched their ticket to the Division 2 South Sectional tournament.
They were led by Hannah Greene’s hat trick to fuel the win. She scored twice very early in the first half—about one minute and four minutes into the game—to stake Bourne to an early advantage.
Her third goal came with roughly minutes to go in the first half and the halftime score stood as 3-0.
Sophie Stowe added the Canalmen’s fourth goal in the second half while Massmann credited JJ Rodrigues, Emily Strojny, Erin Hennessey and Aaysham Tahir for their play.
Elizabeth Black and Olivia Tura split time in net to earn the shutout victory.
Bourne 2, Case 1
The South Coast Conference Small Division win put the Canalmen one win away from getting to the postseason for the first time under third-year head coach Mike Massmann.
Hosting Case on Friday, October 18, Bourne went 2-0 and hung on for the 2-1 win.
Julia Elicier put her team out in front in the first four minutes of action before Faith Sexton scored on a ball from Strojny 20 minutes later to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Massmann said Stowe played well in the midfield while Sexton, Strojny and Greene controlled possession in Case’s defensive third of the field.
The win ended a two-game losing skid for the Canalmen, where they were outscored by opponents 11-1.
Bourne (8-6-2, 5-0-1 SCC-Small) host Wareham today at 5 PM.
