The Bourne volleyball team put forth a valiant effort in its home loss to South Coast Conference rival Case on Wednesday, October 16.
Though the Canalmen lost, 3-1, every set came down to the wire against the Cardinals. Bourne responded with a 25-20 win in the second set after dropping the first set, 25-23. Case, however, took the final two sets, 25-19 and 25-16, respectively, to earn the road win.
Senior captain Michelle Gallerani filled out the stat sheet, coming up with 13 kills, seven blocks and eight digs while classmate and co-captain Caitlin O’Connor contributed six aces from the service line to go with 10 digs and four kills. Junior captain Kiely O’Connor tallied 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior Jillian Orth, who has returned to the team, had 28 assists from the setter position.
Back on September 25, Case earned a 3-0 home sweep against the Canalmen.

The Canalmen cruised to a three-set sweep in its South Coast Conference crossover match with the Blue Raiders on Monday, October 14.
Bourne won in convincing fashion, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-15 to pick up its sixth win on the season. Caitlin O’Connor totaled eight aces from the service line to go with 10 kills. Her younger sister, Kiely O’Connor, wasn’t far behind with an eight-kill performance.
Senior captain Michelle Gallerani finished with seven kills while junior Jillian Orth, who returned to the team, aided the offense with 18 assists from the setter position. Junior Sophia Amaral had nine digs from the libero spot.
Bourne (6-10, 3-5 SCC-Small) hosts Apponequet Friday, October 18, at 6 PM. The Canalmen will look to avenge its season-opening road loss to the Lakers on September 6.
