Bourne Boys' Soccer vs UCT — October 21, 2019

Bourne junior Matthew Ziehl will be the focus of the offense when the Canalmen take part in the upcoming Division 4 South Sectional tournament.

The Bourne boys’ soccer team was fueled by a strong performance in net from senior captain Wyatt Ream en route to its second straight win.

Hosting Mashpee in a non-conference match on Friday, October 25, Bourne saw goals from junior Matt Ziehl and Tyler LaCasse while Ream stopped all five shots he faced for his seventh shutout of the year.

The Canalmen defeated the Falcons, 2-0.

Senior captain Armond Eldredge set up Bourne’s first goal on a free kick play. He found senior co-captain Nick Card, who headed the ball to Ziehl for the go-ahead two minutes into the first half.

That lead stood up through halftime before Eldredge had a hand in the Canalmen’s second goal. On a throw-in play, Eldredge threw a ball to LaCasse before he buried the ball in the back of the net.

Bourne earned the regular season sweep of the Falcons after claiming a 1-0 road win in Mashpee on September 13. After going scoreless in their first four games, the Canalmen have outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 6-2.

Having earned a spot in the Division 4 South Sectional tournament via the Sullivan Rule, Bourne awaits its playoff seed.

Girls’ Season Ends In Route

The Bourne girls’ soccer team found itself up by a goal early in the game, but quickly lost control in a non-conference road match against the Falcons, 8-2.

Visiting Mashpee on Friday, October 25, senior Alex Cunningham and junior Amanda Orciuch each had a goal and an assist for the Canalmen, who trailed 8-2 at halftime. Senior Emily Wing and sophomore Lexi Morisset added the other goals for Bourne.

Mashpee sophomore Sam Kersey had a hand in six goals for the Falcons, scoring four and assisting two more on the afternoon.

Bourne (3-13-2, 3-4-1 SCC-Small) completed its regular season and did not qualify for the Division 4 South Sectional playoffs. The Canalmen have not qualified for the postseason since 2016.
