It was a hard-fought defensive battle, but Case used two second-half goals to pull away from the Bourne boys’ soccer team in a South Coast Conference Small Division match.

Visiting the Cardinals in Swansea on Wednesday, October 16, the Canalmen played to a 1-0 deficit at halftime thanks to a determined defensive attitude before Case added two insurance goals in the 3-0 shutout win.

Head coach Andrew Arki spoke highly of his defensive unit, crediting senior Nick Card for 15 clears and sophomore Thomas Sullivan picking up nine tackles. He also noted the defensive support of junior Colby Lindner.

Armond Eldredge, a senior captain, played well from the central midfield position and often was the source of offensive production. Arki went to say that junior Austin Winchester played a physical game.

Goalkeeper Wyatt Ream stopped seven shots, but six beat him as the Canalmen fell in a South Coast Conference crossover game on Monday, October 14 in Somerset.

Matt Ziehl had four shots on net, three of which came off corner opportunities and another on a penalty kick, but couldn’t get one by the Blue Raiders’ goalie on the afternoon. Despite the loss, Ream was supported on defense by Sullivan, who recorded 10 tackles and eight clearouts on the match.

Bourne (3-9-2, 2-5-1 SCC-Small) travels to Lakeville to meet Apponequet Friday, October 18 at 3:45 PM.
