Bourne Boys’ Soccer vs. UCT — September 4, 2019

Bourne’s Sohrab Nyman lifts in the air to head the ball during the Canalmen boys’ soccer game on September 4.

The Bourne boys’ soccer team had its chances to score, but the Canalmen couldn’t finish them off, leaving them scoreless on the season.

Visiting South Coast Conference rival Seekonk on Wednesday, September 11, the Canalmen had four strong scoring opportunities, but none found the back of the net in their 3-0 loss.

Senior Sohrob Nyman had three of the quality scoring chances while sophomore Tom Sullivan nearly headed a ball home on a cross, but they all fell short.

Goaltender Wyatt Ream, a senior, stopped nine of 12 shots on goal in a strong effort.

Bourne 0, Fairhaven 0

In a hard-fought defensive battle on the road for the Canalmen’s SCC-Small opener, Bourne salvaged a scoreless tie with the Blue Devils.

Visiting Fairhaven on Monday, September 9, the Canalmen were led by the strong play of Ream. The netminder stonewalled the Blue Devils all afternoon long, highlighted by stopping a penalty kick late in the game to preserve the scoreless draw and give himself his second shutout in three games this season.

Nyman had a chance to put his team out in front in the first half, but struck the post on a shot while Morgan Hopwood got his foot on the rebound, but the ball floated just wide of the net.

“It was a close game in the first half, but I think we definitely outplayed them in the second half,” Bourne head coach Andrew Arki said.

Matt Ziehl nearly had himself a breakaway, one-on-one opportunity, but was called for offsides. Senior captain Armond Eldredge also had three shots on net, but they were stopped by Ream’s counterpart in net.

Despite the strong effort, Bourne has yet to score a goal in three games this season.

Apponequet 3, Bourne 0

The Canalmen may have let in three goals to the Lakers, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort by Ream.

Hosting Apponequet on Friday, September 6, the senior goalie stopped 15 of 18 shots as he was under constant duress in net. The reasoning was due to the Canalmen getting called for a red card very early in the first half, forcing the home team to play a man down for the majority of the game.

Senior defender Nick Card, who also played well in front of Ream against Fairhaven, tallied five blocked shots and seven clears against Apponequet in the losing effort.

Bourne (0-2-2, 0-2-1 SCC) welcomes Mashpee Friday, September 13 to town for a non-conference match at 3:45 PM.
