When her team needed her the most, junior Julia Elicier answered the call.
Caught in a 1-1 tie on the road against Sturgis West on Monday, Elicier received a pass from Emily Strojny and she connected on the game-winning goal with 13 minutes left to play to score the out-of-conference win.
The goal stood up as the Canalmen field hockey team hung on for the 2-1 win against Sturgis West.
Hannah Greene scored seven minutes into the action before Sturgis West tied the game at one apiece at Simpkins Field in South Yarmouth. The score remained knotted at 1-1 until Elicier broke the tie and helped the visitors escape with a win.
Head coach Mike Massmann said midfielder Sophie Stowe, Mary Schmitt, JJ Rodrigues and Aaysham Tahir all played at high levels in the midfield.
Elizabeth Black stopped three of four shots on net in the win.
The win gave the Canalmen the regular season sweep against the Sturgis schools. Bourne scored a 1-0 win against Sturgis East to open the season on September 4.

Greene tied the game for Bourne off a pass from Taylor McCarthy on a penalty corner late in the first half. The two teams entered the break at halftime amid a 1-1 tie, but that was short lived as ORR came up with the eventual game-winner eight minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs added an insurance goal with seven minutes left in the game.
Bourne (6-4-2, 5-2-2 SCC-Small) travels to Fairhaven to meet the Blue Devils in an SCC-Small showdown on Friday, October 11 at 3:30 PM. A month ago, on September 11, the Canalmen scored a 5-1 home win against Fairhaven.
