After keeping things close for a half, Fairhaven’s girls’ soccer team potted four second half goals to upend the Bourne ladies by a 4-0 score down Highway 195 on Monday, April 12. Bourne kept things close with some fine defensive work in the first half, but were held at bay offensively as they were able to earn just two shots in the first 40 minutes of play.
In the second half, things went south for BHS. Fairhaven scored on a shot from the top of the 18-yard line just two minutes into the second half to take the lead for good. Three minutes later a defensive lapse by the Canalmen saw the ball find the back of their net again, and five minutes after that FHS got another for a three-goal lead. They added a breakaway goal midway through the half to account for the final score.
Sydney Fitzpatrick and Emma Correia had solid games for Bourne. Goalie Emma Bourgault made 13 saves in the net. Cassidy Bonzagni, a freshman who was called up to the varsity midway through the second, continued to show improvement and comfort at the varsity level with another solid outing for BHS.
