After falling behind early, the Bourne High School field hockey team was able to net the equalizer late in the first quarter and played its rivals from Wareham to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, April 14.

Wareham got on the board first, just 3:03 into the contest, on a goal from Marina Cadena on a converted corner play. The shot was nearly unstoppable as it snapped by goalie Elizabeth Black, who had a strong game for BHS overall.

Black kept her team in the game the whole way. After the goal in the first quarter she stopped everything else thrown at her, including two breakaways. She finished with six saves total for the afternoon.

BHS (1-3-2) was able to tie the score at 14:12 of the first quarter. Julia Elicier finished a shot inside the circle that evaded Wareham goalie Ian Clive, making it 1-1.

From that point forward each team had chances, but neither was able to score again. Emily Strojny and Tori Flaherty were strong up front for the Canalmen all game long.

The Lady Canalmen will return to action on Saturday, April 17, with a game on the road at Southeastern.
