Flaherty Fires

Bourne High School midfielder Tori Flaherty fires the ball towards the net during the Lady Canalmen’s game on Monday against Sturgis East. BHS rallied from behind to win the game by a 4-3 score, picking up their first victory of the year.

A strong couple of days for the Bourne High School field hockey team continued on Wednesday, September 22 as the Lady Canalmen traveled to Fairhaven and came away with a 1-1 draw. After opening the season with three straight defeats the team has now gone 1-0-1 in its last two.

Hannah Greene had the goal in the game for Bourne to tie the game up. In goal, Elizabeth Black stopped four shots on net by the Blue Devils.

After dropping their first three matches of the season, the Bourne High field hockey team showed a lot of grit as they rallied to take down Sturgis East at home for their first win of the season, 4-3, with a goal in the last minute.

With just 35 seconds to go Madison Sexton scored her second of the day to break the tie with the Storm. Sexton had also scored earlier in the second half for BHS.

Sturgis scored the game’s first two goals before Bourne began to mount their comeback. Hannah Greene got her first of two on the day, with a weak side tip, with 4:20 left to play in the first half to start the rally. BHS fought back to knot the score on a goal by Sexton before Sturgis reclaimed the lead. Sexton then tied it up and Greene got the late winner for BHS. Tori Flaherty had two assists in the contest for the Lady Canalmen.

BHS also got strong play in the game from Madigan Kelley, Kellan Gaeke and Heather Lapworth.
