Every year American Legion Post 188 is among the favorites to come out of Zone 10 with a championship, and the 2019 edition of the varsity team looks like it should continue that trend once again.

Stacked with top talent from the Upper Cape, the 188 senior team is a veteran roster with a number of players who can make an impact. Coach Brian Tomasini’s club boasts nine players who made up the core of the Sandwich High School team that has run roughshod over all of Cape Cod throughout the spring. Nate Coleman (infield), Josh Kutcher (catcher/third base), Zach Landry (outfield/shortstop), Mike Petit (third base/pitcher), Cam Scheuer (middle infield), John Tropea (shortstop/pitcher) and Tyler Wudyka (first base/pitcher) will all take the field this summer for the Sandwich-based post. Nick Heyer (pitcher/first base) is a 2018 graduate of Sandwich who will also be on the team this year.

From Falmouth, several returning players from last year’s team are on the roster. Nick Cavossa (pitcher/first base), Chris Perito (outfield), and Max Roman (infield/pitcher) all return from last year’s club.

Bourne has a nice contingent on the team as well. James Cahoon (pitcher/outfield), Ben Smith (pitcher/outfield) and Alex Sorenti-Burns (outfield) will battle for the maroon and blue.

St. John Paul II High School players Aaron Cole (pitcher/shortstop) and Joseph Dorman (pitcher/first base) made the final roster. Mashpee High pitcher/shortstop Zack Rogers will also be a member of the club.

While the senior team is made up of a big Sandwich contingent, it is Falmouth that has the most representatives on a potentially stacked club. Six Falmouth High players made the cut for the team. They include Sam Cavossa (catcher/second base), Andrew DeBettencourt (middle infield), Nico Gagnon (pitcher/shortstop), Chris Maseda (pitcher/shortstop), Max McDonald (center field/second base) and Jonah Schlezinger. Cam Bush (infield/pitcher) and Blake Martin (pitcher/third base), who hail from Falmouth but play at Upper Cape Tech, are also on the roster.

From Sandwich High there are four players on the 188 junior roster. They include: Brady Campbell (second base/pitcher), Sean Landry (second base/pitcher), Matt Prete (outfield/second base) and Tyler Schultz (infield).

Mashpee High is sending three players to the 188 junior team. Willie Baker (third base/outfield), Jared Barr (catcher/outfield) and Colton Colleran (second base/pitcher) made the cut.

Sturgis West has two players on the 188 junior team. They are Liam Howell (pitcher/first base) and Jon Nunes (center field/third base). Finn Lewis (middle infield), of Martha’s Vineyard, also will play on the team.
