UCT Girls' Basketball vs Blue Hills — January 8, 2020

UCT junior Lacy Butland scored a team-high eight points in a great team win for the Rams’ girls’ basketball home game against Cape Tech on Wednesday.

Senior co-captains Connor Reidy and Des Nascimento responded in a big way following a hard-fought home loss by the UCT boys’ basketball team earlier in the week.

The two scorers combined to account for 40 of their team’s 64 points as the Rams opened Mayflower Athletic Conference Small Division play on the road against Cape Tech on Wednesday, January 15.

Reidy posted a game-high 22 points while Nascimento wasn’t far off with 18 of his own as UCT won by 30 points, 64-34, against the Crusaders in Harwich.

The win comes just two days after the Rams lost an energetic, defensive-minded battle with Sturgis East, 39-35.

In the rematch of the battle between two brothers, the Storm’s Nathan Nawoichik lifted his team to a defensive-minded win against the Rams boys’ basketball team and his younger brother, Jared.

The elder Nawoichik sank four free throws in the final minute, breaking a 35-35 tie that Jared had forced with a free throw of his own, leading Sturgis East to the non-conference win on Monday, January 13, and avenging a home loss to the Rams earlier this season.

Nathan finished the game with 12 points for the Storm in a game where scoring came at a premium. Neither team shot the ball well, instead exerting extra effort on defense. The Rams held a 9-8 lead in the first quarter and even less points were scored in the second quarter, as UCT led 14-13 at the break.

The visitors pulled away early in the fourth quarter, but the Rams battled back to eventually tie on a Nascimento jumper and Nawoichik’s free throw before his brother sealed the win for Sturgis at the charity stripe.
