The Bourne High School girls’ lacrosse team got back up above the .500 mark for the season with a great victory over Dighton-Rehoboth on Monday, June 7. BHS scored a 15-9 win on its home field to get to 3-2 overall on the season with their win over the Falcons.
Leading the way was senior Isabelle Stone. The college-bound player had her way with the D-R defense, scoring five times to pace the Lady Canalmen to the win. Sophomores Brooke Lunedei and Madigan Kelly each had hat tricks as the troika combined for 11 of the team’s 14 goals.
Aaysham Tahir had a nice outing, scoring twice.
Hannah Wenzel and Ashlyn Ether each had one goal in the game. Angelina Bonito and Emma Busnengo assisted on two goals each as they were pivotal in the team’s excellent ball distribution in the contest.
Jess LaFlamme also assisted on two goals, but did so out of the defensive end. Her ability to transition the ball from defense to offense was big for BHS. Jill Orth, Emily Sullivan and Sophie Sheehy were stead on defense as well.
In the goal, it was a memorable day for keeper Calieigh Wrighter. She had a career-high 20 saves in the goal during the win.
The girls were supposed to continue their season on Wednesday night, June 9, with a game under the lights at Greater New Bedford Vocational Tech. Extremely hot and muggy temperatures deemed the game unsafe to play and the contest was postponed.
