It came down to the last game of the season for the Bourne High School boys’ soccer team. The Canalmen needed one more win, and maybe a little help, to earn their way into the top 32 teams in Division 5 and qualify for the state tournament. Following a 3-1 road win at Apponequet High School on October 30, BHS was on the cusp.

Things did not go so well at Greater New Bedford Vocational on Sunday, November 1. A night after the candy had been passed out Bourne suffered an untimely trick at the hands of the Bears, who dominated two halves and routed BHS by a 9-2 score, knocking the team from contention.

Bourne got goals from Alex Fasoli and Ben Hopwood in the game. Shea Ullo and Zack Dodge had assists.

Coach Andrew Arki was pleased with the play of several players, and was complimentary of his senior class, giving them credit for their hard work. The foursome of final year players are Colby Lindner, Thomas Sullivan, Shane Murray and Grady Gobeil.

BHS had given itself a chance by scoring a big win against Apponequet on the road. The Canalmen topped the Lakers by a 3-1 score with Ullo leading the way, scoring two goals in the win. Gobeil had a goal and an assist and Fasoli had two helpers in the game.
