The Mashpee Women’s Club is honored to welcome two renowned Cape Cod residents, best-selling, award winning author and neuroscientist Lisa Genova, and Compassionate Care ALS’s founder, executive director and author Ron Hoffman, for a very special presentation at our luncheon at noon on Tuesday, September 17 at the Popponessett Inn.

Through fiction, Dr. Genova is dedicated to describing with passion and accuracy the journeys of those affected by neurological diseases and mental illness, thereby educating, demystifying, and inspiring support for care and scientific research toward cures. Her most recent novel, “Every Note Played,” is about ALS. Mr. Hoffman will discuss his equally compelling life history which led him to become a national leader in the holistic care of the many suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS. His book Sacred Bullet describes his path along this road of service and dedication to those with truly special needs. Both authors’ books will be available for purchase at the luncheon.

Ron Hoffman founded Compassionate Care ALS in Falmouth and has been its executive director since its inception in October 1998. CCALS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support people diagnosed with ALS, their families and communities as they navigate the complexities, both physical and emotional, associated with the disease. Recently CCALS has nearly completed construction of its CCALS Education and Retreat Center in Falmouth which will meet the needs of individuals living with ALS, their families, and their caregivers. The Center will serve as a handicapped accessible respite and sanctuary as well as a home for CCALS Educational Gatherings and workshops.

The cost for the September 17th luncheon is $25 for members of MWC and $28 for guests. Checks should be sent to MWC, P.O. Box 1613, Mashpee, MA 02649. All reservations must be received by September 10. The Mashpee Women’s Club and its events are open to all. Information about the luncheons as well as membership applications may be found at the club’s website.
