Perception: Lightpaintings by Stephen Knapp

The Sandwich Glass museum is pleased to present several lightpaintings by artist Stephen Knapp (1947-2017), who was one of a small group of artists that worked with both glass and light.

Formed at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and architecture, Knapp's lightpaintings are multi-dimensional compositions of pure  radiance.  His works were created by using a special glass treated with layers of metallic coatings that act as a selective prism to separate focused light into different wavelengths of the spectrum. Knapp then shaped and polished the glass to make a palate that reflected light onto a surface and the surrounding space.

Stephen Knapp's lightpaintings will be featured in the Hirschmann Theater through December 30, 2020.  This exhibit was made possible through the generosity of the Stphen Knapp Family Trust.
