A blown fuse caused a loud boom that could be heard in the area near Highfield Drive on Wednesday evening January 8.

“There was a fault with a customer’s private equipment,” Eversource media relations manager Reid Lamberty said.

At about 4:45 PM on January 8, a loud boom emanated from Highfield Drive. Mr. Lamberty said this happens when a fuse blows. The fuse went off to prevent damage from the customer’s transformer from impacting the larger power system.

“The fuse worked, as it prevented damage on our side,” he said.

One of the businesses to lose power was Falmouth Academy.

“There was some transformer issue, and we lost power,” said Falmouth Academy Director of Communications Amy Galvam. “It was not a Falmouth Academy issue, it just happened near the property.”
