Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois II allegedly got into a fender bender in Hyannis in February.
Mr. Galibois made a three-point turn on Barnstable Road en route to a meeting on February 23, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office. It says another driver “was under the impression” Mr. Galibois hit his Audi while making the three-point turn.
The release said Mr. Galibois accepted responsibility for “civil motor vehicle infractions in the release.”
The Boston Globe reported the driver had to chase Mr. Galibois down, honking his horn and waving his arms to get his attention. Mr. Galibois’s press release said he immediately pulled over, exchanged information, took photos and offered to call the police, which the other driver turned down.
“There were no injuries,” the press release stated. “There were no mechanical or structural issues with either car.”
The March 14 Globe article said there was a noticeable bump on the other driver’s car. Barnstable police cited Mr. Galibois with failing to report a motor vehicle crash, the article said. He was also reportedly cited for making an improper turn and a marked lanes violation.
The Globe reported the other driver, 22-year-old Rahim Edwards Jr. from Sandwich, said Mr. Galibois’s first words when they pulled over were “Oh, did I hit you?” Mr. Edwards reportedly relaxed after observing Mr. Galibois’s calm and professional posture. But his mother, the owner of the Audi, called the police and reported the incident as a hit-and-run. According to the article, Mr. Galibois did not respond to phone calls, and their insurance company said he denied being involved at all.
The district attorney’s office press release said Mr. Galibois cooperated with both the insurance company and the Barnstable Police Department and provided photographs of the cars, although the release said there was no identifiable damage.
