Police arrested an East Falmouth man Saturday night after he displayed a knife and raised it above his shoulder as if preparing to stab someone, according to police reports.
Deron P. Harpool, 25, was charged with assault with a knife, possession of a dangerous weapon, reporting a false crime and disorderly conduct.
Falmouth police officers were dispatched around 6 PM to an apartment at 95 Spring Bars Road for a report of a woman in need of assistance, according to police. However, there was no answer at the apartment door. After they cleared the scene, police received several more calls from the same caller, later identified as Mr. Harpool, who allegedly reported incidents of sexual assault and someone brandishing a gun. Again, there was no answer at the apartment in question and police determined no one was there.
In the meantime, dispatch received further calls from the suspect, who reported that he had raped someone and he had a gun and that officers would have to pick the apartment lock, the report said. While police were waiting for a manager with a key, Mr. Harpool, who was directly across the hall, opened his apartment door, displayed a knife, then raised it above his shoulder as if preparing to stab someone. He was only a couple of feet from an officer, the report said.
Mr. Harpool was arrested and officers were able to contact the resident of the apartment in question, who gave permission to unlock the door. No one was in the apartment.
