Falmouth Beach Committee chairman Paul Miskovsky on Monday, February 22, asked the select board to expand the committee from five to seven members.
“We have five members on our committee right now, and we have a lot of stuff to do,” Mr. Miskovsky said. “We’d really like to have a couple more members to spread the work out.”
Chairwoman Megan E. English Braga asked if adding members to the committee fell under the board’s purview.
“I think we had seven people at one point, but through attrition, we’ve lost some people,” Mr. Miskovsky said.
He added that the recreation committee has seven members and that he did not think there was anything in the charter that precludes adding members.
Assistant Town Manager Peter Johnson-Staub said Town Meeting approved a change to the town charter in January that removes the beach, recreation, waterways and human services committees from list of appointed town governmental bodies in the charter.
While approved by Town Meeting, select board member Douglas H. Jones said the charter changes need approval by Falmouth voters before it goes into effect. The charter changes will be on the May town election ballot.
“I still think it is under our purview,” Mr. Jones said.
The select board will ask town counsel if it can change the size of the beach committee prior to this vote.
