The Falmouth Police Department is looking for the driver responsible for a hit and run incident that resulted in the death of an 81-year-old man.

Falmouth police responded to the scene on Grand Avenue in Falmouth Heights at 11:35 PM, on Friday, September 10.

The man was walking on the sidewalk with three other adults when he was struck, police said. The driver of the car fled the scene.  

The victim was struck by a car and sustained fatal injuries, police said. The driver of the car fled the scene, police said.

The other pedestrians were not hurt, police said.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a red sedan with heavy windshield damage and other damage to its front end. Police said the driver was going at a high rate of speed and hit the victim from behind after going up onto the sidewalk.

The fatality is under investigation by the Falmouth Police Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the investigation includes viewing of video footage from nearby surveillance cameras.
