A Falmouth man was one of the 36 protesters arrested at the Straight Pride Parade in Boston on Saturday, August 31.
Michael Doughty, 24, of Falmouth was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer. Nine of the 36 protesters at the Straight Pride Parade were charged with assault and battery on a police officer. Four police officers were injured at the event.
Organized by Super Happy Fun America, approximately 300 marchers participated in the Straight Pride Parade. Organization president John Hugo described straight people as “an oppressed majority” fighting for the right to express pride in themselves without fear of being judged.
The parade was heavily criticized, with approximately 600 people attending to protest. The parade drew rebukes from Boston Mayor Marty J. Walsh and US
Representatives Ayanna S. Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
