A horse died after it was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening, January 12.

Falmouth police responded to a report of a horse walking down the middle of Sandwich Road in the area of Thomas B Landers Road, according to a statement from the police department. Shortly after the initial call, a second caller reported the horse had been struck by a vehicle in the area. Police arrived on scene and found the animal had died from its injuries.

The vehicle involved in the accident remained on scene. The driver had also called police to report the incident, police said. 

A second horse that was loose was returned safely.

The incident is under investigation by Falmouth Marine and Environmental Services and the state Department of Agriculture.
