An Attleboro man was arrested for assaulting people with a knife and slashing tires at Chapoquoit Beach in Falmouth on Sunday, June 26.
Police officers were dispatched at 6:31 PM on Sunday to the report of 45-year-old Augusto Darosa of Attleboro assaulting people. He fled on foot before the officers arrived. A K-9 unit was dispatched at the scene to assist with the search, along with the Massachusetts Air Wing. Mr. Darosa was found hiding on a boat in West Falmouth Harbor.
The Falmouth Police Department said in a report that the incident stemmed from Mr. Darosa being upset that he needed a sticker to park at the beach. He reportedly was agitated and threatened the lot attendant before he left the area earlier that day. He returned later, slashing tires with a knife and physically assaulted witnesses, threatening them with the knife, according to police.
Mr. Darosa was arrested for two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery, two counts of threatening to commit a crime, intimidating witnesses, two counts of vandalizing property, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and a felony charge of breaking and entering a vehicle/boat at nighttime.
He is being held without bail at the police station and will be arraigned today, Monday, June 27.
