A man was found dead near Menauhant Beach after succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday, May 22.

The 84-year-old man was found by the Falmouth Police Department and the Falmouth Fire/Rescue Department at approximately 2:44 PM.

Emergency crews were responding to the report of an unconscious man in a vehicle in the Menauhant Beach parking lot.

The paramedics determined upon arrival that the man was deceased.

The man was from Cotuit, according to the press release by the police department. The fire department confirmed that the gunshot was self-inflicted.

The Falmouth Police Detective Bureau, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, and the Office of the Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident.
