A four-year-old Mashpee boy died after suffering serious injuries in a car crash Thursday morning, January 21, on Route 151 in North Falmouth.
Mashpee Public Schools Superintendent Patricia M. DeBoer confirmed the death of Okemos R. Brown, who was a preschooler at Kenneth C. Coombs School and a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, in an email to the school community Thursday evening.
Just before 9 AM yesterday, Falmouth police responded to the crash at the on-ramp to Route 28 North, according to a statement posted to the department's Facebook page.
Officers found a sedan and a commercial truck were involved in the accident.
A medical helicopter was requested to transport the four-year-old to a Boston-area hospital, the statement said. The driver of the sedan had non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
"Okemos was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. In addition to being part of our Mashpee School Community, Okemos was also a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe," Ms. DeBoer wrote in her message. "Okemos was related to many members of our connected community. We will all spend difficult moments grieving his loss. Please keep Okemos and his family in your thoughts and prayers."
