A fire in East Falmouth on Friday, September 11, damaged the basement of a home on Grace Court.

“Shortly after 10 AM we were dispatched to Grace Court,” acting Deputy Fire Chief Chad Absten said.

An off-duty firefighter reported smoke coming from the home and called it in.

Upon arrival, firefighters found all of the occupants were safely outside the home.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and there were no reported injuries Dept. Chief Absten said.

Melissa Theodorakis, the daughter of the homeowner, took to Facebook to ask the community for help. She created a GoFundMe page for her family members.

As of Sunday, September 13, more than $3,000 had been raised for the family.

More than 50 people have commented on Ms. Theodorakis’ initial Facebook post, offering clothing, diapers, furniture and other items.

"This community has been wonderful helping," Ms. Theodorakis said. "The entire house has been affected. The basement is the worst of it, but the whole home is damaged."
