Falmouth police have identified the man killed by a car while walking on a sidewalk last Friday, September 10, as Michael D. Leis, 81, of Framingham.

The investigation into the identity of the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident is ongoing, according to Falmouth Police Lieutenant Douglas DeCosta.

Falmouth police responded to the scene on Grand Avenue in Falmouth Heights at 11:35 PM.

Mr. Leis was walking on the sidewalk near 201 Grand Avenue with three other adults when he was struck at 11:30 PM, police said. The driver of the car fled the scene, and Mr. Leis sustained fatal injuries. The other pedestrians were not hurt, police said.

Mr. Leis leaves a wife and three children. He was an electrical engineer for 40 years, specializing in designing hard drives, and held more than 30 original patents in hard drive technology.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a red sedan with heavy windshield damage and other damage to its front end. Police said the driver was going at a high rate of speed and hit the victim from behind after going up onto the sidewalk.
