A lifeguard pulled a swimmer in distress from the water at Chapoquoit Beach this afternoon, Captain Ryan P. Gavin of the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department said.

The lifeguard noticed the person was having difficulty swimming, pulled the swimmer onto a board, and brought the swimmer to shore, Captain Gavin said.

Bystanders provided CPR until emergency vehicles arrived. Falmouth Fire Rescue arrived at 4:02 PM, Captain Gavin said.

The swimmer was stabilized en route to Falmouth Hospital, Captain Gavin said.

"The lifeguard did a fantastic job recognizing the person was in distress," Captain Gavin added.
