A dive team was activated for a missing teenager at Woodneck Beach in the Sippewissett area of Falmouth on Saturday, August 3, after a 14-year-old Falmouth male wandered away from the beach into a nearby marsh.

At approximately 7:20 PM, dispatch received a call around sunset Saturday and Falmouth Police and Fire Rescue Departments responded, Falmouth Police Lieutenant Douglas M. DeCosta said Monday, August 5.

The fire department's dive team was activated as well as the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, which conducted a search for the teenager in Buzzards Bay, on the east side of the popular beach. Twenty minutes into the search, the 14-year-old was located safely to the west of the beach in the marsh.

"After approximately 20 minutes, the male was located safe in the marsh adjacent to the beach. The child had wandered away from his companions into the marsh area. He was never in the water during the time he was missing," Lt. DeCosta said.
