Avelino Roderick Miranda Sr. of East Falmouth and St. Augustine, Florida, died June 19. Mr. Miranda, 94, died at Lake City Veterans Hospital in Florida.
He was the husband of Beatrice Vierra Miranda, to whom he was married for 74 years.
Born in New Bedford, he had lived in Clinton, Maryland, as well as East Falmouth and St. Augustine.
Mr. Miranda was a veteran of World War II, in which he served as a technician fifth grade with the United States Army. He was decorated with a Purple Heart for his active duty service, which had begun July 2, 1943.
Following his time in the military, Mr. Miranda worked in the masonry business and as a truck company owner.
He loved car races and was a member of the Blue Knights.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Diane Hazelton, Linda Miranda, Avelino R. Miranda Jr., Evelyn Miranda and Beverly A. Miranda-Crawford; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters and a granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a date to be determined.
