Charles Henry Smith, 66, of Brewster died April 18 after a battle with COVID-19. He leaves family in Waquoit.

He was the husband of Pamela Smith for 47 years.

The son of Hugh D. Smith and Pauline Smith, he was born in South Weymouth and grew up in Holbrook. He spent the summers of his childhood on Cape Cod.

His love of both the ocean and saltwater fishing inspired him to make the transition from summers on the Cape to becoming a year-round resident.

Mr. Smith was a cook at Oliver’s Tavern in Yarmouth, where he worked for 35 years. He also loved to cook at home. He also enjoyed driving his antique car and helping out with the Cape Cod Classic Car Club.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons, George Smith of Brewster and Scott Smith of Cotuit; several grandchildren; his siblings, Elaine Pinkham of Waquoit, David Smith of South Yarmouth and Gerard Smith of Fall River; and his mother, who still lives in Holbrook.

Burial will be private at Swan Lake Cemetery in Dennis Port.
