Christian L. Mendes of South Yarmouth, who leaves family in Mashpee and Falmouth, died unexpectedly on November 13 after a brief illness. He was 47.

Born in Barnstable, he was the son of Henry Mendes Jr. of Cape Coral, Florida, and the late Arthur J. Brando Jr. and Vicky L. (Souza) Mendes.

Skilled in construction and a carpenter by trade, Mr. Mendes also had a talent for poetry. He also was known for his passion for basketball and reggae music.

In addition to his father, he leaves a son, Christian L. Mendes Jr. of Lompoc, California; three daughters, Jada Aquiar of Newark, Delaware, and Asjha Labinski and Aaliyah Labinski, both of Harwich; five brothers, Troy Mendes of Manchester, Connecticut, Henry Mendes III of Cape Coral, Florida, Arthur Mendes of West Wareham, Brian Mendes of Yarmouth and William Cuozzo of Mashpee; and two sisters, Ivy Mendes of Yarmouth and Frances Rivera of Falmouth. He also leaves his girlfriend, Julie Castoldi, and her two children, all of Yarmouth; and a large extended family.

A prayer service was on Monday, November 22, at Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth.

Interment was to be private.
