David G. Braithwaite of Milton, an administrative judge for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, died June 25 at the age of 53.

He was the son of Barbara R. (Lavimoniere) and Gerard J. Braithwaite, and was a toddler when he and his older brother moved to Falmouth from New Bedford with their parents in 1968. He was graduated from Falmouth High School in 1985 and from Amherst College in 1989.

He was the husband of Rebecca E. Southard, to whom he was married for 25 years. Johnson Chapel at Amherst College was the setting for the couple’s May 20 wedding in 1995, at which time Mr. Braithwaite was a third year student at Boston University School of Law and Dr. Southard, a podiatrist, had a practice in Scituate. Following a wedding trip to Italy, they made their home in Brookline.

Mr. Braithwaite received his juris doctor in 1996 and over the next few years the couple purchased their home in Milton and then started their family.

Mr. Braithwaite worked as an attorney before serving the commonwealth as a judge.

A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, he was fond of baseball trivia and also had a love for travel and music.

In addition to his wife and their two children, Aidan Braithwaite and Laura Braithwaite, also of Milton, he leaves his mother in Falmouth; a brother, Eric M. Braithwaite of Newport Beach, California; two nephews; and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 2015.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
