Dennis B. Aubrey of Hide-A-Way Hills, Ohio, a former Falmouth resident, died unexpectedly on July 12. He was 70.

He was the son of Donald R. and Lucille N. (Otero) Aubrey. Because his father was in the US Army, in his youth he lived on posts throughout the United States and in Japan and France. His favorite country was France, and he would make multiple trips back there as an adult.

Mr. Aubrey attended the University of California at Santa Barbara and received bachelor of fine arts and master of fine arts degrees in directing from Carnegie-Mellon University, where he was named a distinguished alumnus.

He would become a director, author, photographer and businessman during his lifetime, and also co-founder of Via Lucis Press, photographing and publishing books and a blog about French Romanesque churches.

After decades living in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles and later moving to Falmouth, he and his wife settled in Ohio.

He leaves his wife, PJ McKey Aubrey; his mother, who lives in Santa Barbara; three siblings, David G. Aubrey of Falmouth, Ann Aubrey Hanson of Santa Barbara and John Aubrey of Boston; two stepchildren, Sarah Tone and Andrew Tone; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 2015, and his brother Stephen B. Aubrey, who died in 2014.
