Elinor R. Gabriel of Great Neck, New York, and Woods Hole died October 22 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey. She was 95.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the granddaughter of Morris Michtom, creator of the American Teddy Bear. She attended Friends School in Brooklyn and the University of Connecticut in Storrs, graduating in 1945.

During college she met Mordecai Gabriel, whom she married on November 11, 1945, just shy of her 21st birthday. They had been married for 67 years at the time of her husband’s death in December 2012.

Beginning in 1948, the couple spent their summers in Woods Hole, where her husband, a professor of biology at Brooklyn College, had a lab at the Marine Biological Laboratory. Ms. Gabriel was active in the Woods Hole community, serving as president of the Children’s School of Science in 1981.

She leaves her daughters, Alisa Gabriel Isackes and Jessica Gabriel Lauria; and four grandchildren, David Litwin, Jennifer Litwin, Adam Lauria and Katherine Lauria.
