Emily E. (Lopes) Romiza of Falmouth died New Year’s Day at Royal of Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee. She was 91.

She was the wife of Joseph P. Romiza Jr., whom she married November 27, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Church in Falmouth. Her husband died in 2005.

She was the daughter of Manuel and Noemia (Costa) Lopes.

Ms. Romiza was a certified nursing assistant in the maternity ward at Falmouth Hospital for many years. She also had owned the Kandy Kitchen on Main Street and was an accomplished seamstress.

She was a devoted parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church and of the church choir.

She leaves a sister, Virginia B. Rosa of East Falmouth; four children, Joan Curry of South Carolina, Virginia Moran and Susan Rogers, both of East Falmouth, and Eileen Bean, also of South Carolina; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five siblings, Cidalina Williams, Armando R. Lopes, William J. Lopes, Felix A. Lopes and Lucinda E. Farias; and her children Carl J. Romiza and Deborah N. Thompson.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, January 8, from 4 to 7 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street in Falmouth.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 9, at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main Street inFalmouth.

Burial will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
