Francis James LaBate, 86, of East Falmouth died May 9.

He was the husband of Sheila LaBate. The couple had celebrated their golden anniversary last month.

The son of Louis and Emma Gladys LaBate, he was born in Brockton and educated in the Brockton Public Schools.

He worked for First National supermarket.

Mr. LaBate joined the United States Army in 1967 and served for two years.

After he returned from his military service, he was married on April 17, 1970.

For recreation, Mr. LaBate loved to go out in his boat and do a little fishing.

In addition to his wife, he leaves their son Rory LaBate of Texas; several grandchildren, Zack LaBate of Alabama, Nick LaBate of Texas, Lea Barry of New Hampshire, and Kerri and Jesse Rollinger of South Carolina; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Louis Jr. LaBate and Marie Silva; and his son Brian LaBate.
