George J. Miranda Jr., 81, of East Falmouth died November 1 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was known as Sonny.

The son of George J. Miranda Sr. and Bevinda (Gomes) Miranda, he was born in New Bedford and raised and attended school in Wareham.

Following high school Mr. Miranda worked in construction and, in 1977, became a member of the Construction & General Laborers’ Union Local No. 385. After 33 years he retired from that field and then drove for the president of Bridgewater State University for eight years.

Mr. Miranda moved to Falmouth and met Anne Craft, whom he married in 2009.

He was an usher at St. Anthony’s Church in East Falmouth for the 11 AM services.

He leaves his wife, Anne M. Miranda; two siblings, Melvin Miranda of Harwich and Paula Miranda of New Bedford; two sons, Sonny Tavares of Wareham and Anthony Pina of New Bedford; a daughter, Lisa Miranda of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Crystal Craft of Mashpee; as well as his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Miranda and Manuel Miranda; his daughter Taylease Pina; and his stepdaughter Kimberly Craft.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, November 9, at St. Anthony’s Church in East Falmouth.

Burial was private.
