George Robert Johnson of Falmouth, who picked up and delivered students to school weekdays before his retirement, died February 13 from complications of COVID-19. He was 85.

He was the husband of Judith Lee Johnson. They had been married for nearly 67 years.

A veteran of the US Navy, he served during the Korean War.

Mr. Johnson ended his working career as a bus driver for Falmouth Public Schools. He was given the title “Candy Man” by his co-workers and the students for always having candy to share.

He was an avid baseball fan and especially loved watching the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife, he leaves their six children, Mark Johnson, Michele Parker, Stephen Johnson, Susan Wright, Scott Johnson and Gregg Johnson; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
