Jacqueline R. Holmes of East Falmouth died at home on September 26, after a battle with dementia. She was 85.

Born and raised in Millbury, she was the daughter of Homer E. and Lilla (Woodward) Rock. She graduated from Millbury High School.

As a young woman, she worked at Millbury Savings Bank and Wyman-Gordon, a manufacturer of metal components. During her vacation time, she traveled with her friend to Cape Cod, and on one such trip she met Stephen P. Holmes on the beach in Popponesset. They later wed and had shared 53 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2014.

Ms. Holmes and her husband lived in Newton and raised three children. She worked as a data processor at Star Market, and later did the billing for the family plumbing business, R.P. Holmes in West Newton, that was established in 1931 by her father-in-law and then owned and operated by her husband and his brother. They spent many weekends—summer and winter alike—in Popponesset.

Ms. Holmes eventually moved to East Falmouth with her husband and younger son. She worked for many years with her older son at his optometry practice, See Breeze Optical, in Sandwich and Buzzards Bay.

She leaves her children, Stephen P. Holmes Jr. of Bourne, Susanne Holmes Ferzoco of Newton and East Falmouth, and Kevin Holmes of East Falmouth; a grandson, Tyler Holmes; three step-grandchildren, Nick Ferzoco, Lisa Ferzoco and Zachary Franklin; and extended family.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her four siblings, Robert Rock, William Rock, Carolyn Forsberg and Judith Foisy.

Services and burial were Wednesday, September 30, at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in East Falmouth.
