Jeffrey Duane Souza of Mashpee, a former resident of Falmouth, died May 19 after a battle with cancer. Mr. Souza was also known as J.D.

He was the partner of Patricia Souza-DeMello and the son of the late George and Edith Souza.

After attending the Falmouth Public Schools, Mr. Souza graduated from Cape Cod Community College.

He was the owner and operator of JD Souza Landscaping. Prior to going into business for himself, he worked for Green Harbor Motel, All Star Music and The Wood Lumber Company.

Music was an important part of his life. He was a guitarist at On The Rocks and his love of music also inspired him to co-found Souzapalooza, an annual charity music festival held at the Fresh Pond Holy Ghost Society hall every August.

Mr. Souza was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in East Falmouth, St. Anthony’s Club, Falmouth Elks Club, and the Fresh Pond Holy Ghost Society in East Falmouth.

In addition to music and landscaping, he also found enjoyment in gardening, boating and four-wheeling.

Besides his partner, he leaves six siblings, Lisa Willow Dunne of North Falmouth, Timothy G. Souza of East Falmouth, Christopher J. Souza of Mashpee, Gregory J. Souza of East Falmouth, Patrick H. Souza of Cicero, New York, and Holly M. Souza of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and his stepchildren, Brittney E. Martinsen, Lauren A. Enos and Chad M. Enos.
