John E. Donnelly Jr., 86, of West Hartford, Connecticut, and North Falmouth, died April 4.

He was the husband of Jean Donnelly for 49 years. She died in 2007.

Born in West Roxbury, he was the son of John and Anna Donnelly. Following his graduation from Boston College, he served in the United States Marine Corps.

Upon completion of his service at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, Mr. Donnelly and his wife settled in Hartford, where he began working in insurance. He later worked in manufacturing and sales for small craft recreational boats.

The couple raised their family in West Hartford and spent their retirement on the Cape.

He leaves three children in Connecticut: Margaret Donnelly of Bloomfield, John E. Donnelly of Niantic and Jean Marie Molloy of West Hartford; five grandchildren; his sister, Jean A. Taylor; and extended family.

He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Donnelly.

Funeral services were in Connecticut and burial was at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
