John O’Callaghan

John Francis O’Callaghan, 83, died at his Teaticket home on February 4. He was known as Shawn.

He was the husband of Carolyn (Travasso) O’Callaghan; the couple had recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He was born in Boston.

Following his military service in the US Army, Mr. O’Callaghan worked for Stop & Shop. He was a grocery manager in Hyde Park, where he and his wife raised their four daughters. He retired after 48 years with the company.

After having had a cottage in East Falmouth for about 20 years, he and his wife built their final home in 1984. Mr. O’Callaghan commuted to Hyde Park until he retired.

During his retirement years he volunteered at Falmouth Senior Center and at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. He enjoyed fishing and digging for quahogs, gardening and reading. He was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church and a Marian Medal recipient. He also loved traveling with his wife, especially to Italy.

In addition to his wife, he leaves their four daughters and seven grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Friday, February 7, from 4 to 7 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street in Falmouth.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 8, at 10 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway.

Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
