John Machado

John Viera Machado, 62, of East Falmouth died unexpectedly at his home on November 10, two weeks before his birthday.

He was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, and immigrated to the United States with his family. He served in the United States Army, thereby becoming a citizen of the United States of America.

Mr. Machado served for six years, his final post with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1978 with a service-connected injury.

He worked as a custodian for the Bourne School Department before retiring in 2015.

Spending the majority of his life as a resident of Falmouth, he enjoyed everything life on Cape Cod had to offer.

He leaves three children, Eric Machado and his wife, Leah Machado, of Mashpee, Rebecca Pakowski and her husband, Micah Pakowski, of Sanford, Maine, and Jessica Machado and her partner, Kyle Bishop, of Farmington, Maine; five grandchildren; three brothers, Gil Machado, Fernando Machado and Joseph Machado; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Manuel Machado and Maria (Resendes) Machado; and his brother Frank Machado.

Visiting hours will be Monday, November 18, from 4 to 7 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 19, at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Road in Pocasset, followed by burial at 11:30 at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
