Joseph Bernard, a former resident of Falmouth, died unexpectedly on November 4 just two weeks before his 19th birthday.

Born in Oak Bluffs, he was the son of Jill Maiorana and the late William J. Bernard. He was raised in Martha’s Vineyard and also lived in Falmouth, before spending most of this last year in recovery living in Delray Beach, Florida.

He was known for his sense of humor and an infectious laugh, and was able to make friends easily.

He aspired to get his degree in psychology to later work in the addiction and recovery field, based on his own experience with substance abuse disorder.

In addition to his mother, he leaves his siblings, Anthony Bernard, Travis Bernard and Alyssa Bernard; his grandparents Barbara Maturski, Robert Maturski and Francis Bernard; and other family.

Visiting hours will be Friday, November 12, from 4 to 7 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 584 West Falmouth Highway.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 13, at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road in North Falmouth.

Burial will be private.
