Kenneth Edward Houtler, 54, of Falmouth died September 20.

The son of Raymond and Ellen Houtler, he was born at Ramstein Air Base, a United States Air Force base in Rhineland-Palatinate, a state in southwestern Germany.

He graduated in 1985 from Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire.

Mr. Houtler was a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 1985 through 1988.

Mr. Houtler was mate and second captain aboard the University of New Hampshire R/V Gulf Challenger for 12 years; captain of the Shoals Marine Laboratory R/V John M. Kingsbury for three years; and captain of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution R/V Tioga for 13 years.

In addition to his parents, he leaves his son, Torsten Houtler; a sister, Melissa Armstrong; a niece, Kayla Armstrong; and other family.

A memorial service will be Saturday, October 16, at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 485 Brick Kiln Road in Falmouth.
