Madeleine (Tayfel) Hecht of Falmouth, a Holocaust survivor and prominent Falmouth business owner, died on May 6. She was 91.

The simple fact that she was born in France saved Ms. Hecht’s life on a street in Montmartre in July 1942. French police, acting on behalf of the occupying Nazis, rounded up nonnative Jews and placed them on buses. Ms. Hecht attempted to board the bus with her mother and older sister but was ordered off. She never saw them again.
